My first model is my main asset so to speak and will be my centre piece of my city as it is a skyscraper. I created it by Starting off with two squares and playing around with its scale and general shape which in the end turned out to be just two big rectangles. I then wanted to make it fit in with my 'world' and environment and to do this I needed to include soft curvature to my architecture to give it that futuristic feel of everything being smooth and clean. I then had to add in sub divisions and this was because I could select individual vertexes so that I can curve the shape into my wanted shape.
I also wanted to add in a hole in the bottom of the building and this was to allow a road to go through like a main entrance and something grand. I did this by extruding and selecting certain vertexes. One bit that I jumped ahead on is my glass walk way to show how my future is very classy and still has a community feel and the walk way could be viewed as an attraction. I did this by texturing a rectangle to appear slightly stained glass but to make it more visible and true I added in what looks like scaffolding by using elongated rectangles.
My next asset is my bin... yes that's a bin, its basic looking at first but all the points have different practicalities, so I started with a box and added more subdivisions to allow me to select faces which I could remove on all the 4 sides where the rubbish would go in. I then placed a sphere in the middle with a pattern of one face clear and the next solid and this was mainly for the ascetics but also because that was like a red hot incinerator so that there was no actual rubbish. I also used specifically placed subdivisions on the edges so that I got the curvature on the edges as that is a common occurrence in my assets
On the top I used a tool which allowed me to bend in faces and so I did this on the top to act as an ash try which I think came out unique and interesting. I also added on various objects which are supposed to be USB ports for say charging phones and what not as well as supplying heat the bin would also supply electricity if convenient for less fortunate people which would be self charged by the heat generated by burning rubbish!
My favourite asset would have to be my statue/ monument for my city which is a big, reflective metal apple and this was to indicate New York as its the state commonly know as the big apple and it fits in nicely with the theme of a clean polished utopia. I started of with a sphere and selected the bottom section of the apple by using face select, I then extruded these faces bringing them down making the stretch much like a real apple and I then had to select both tips of the distorted sphere using vertexes and pinch them in creating a shallow hole for the basic apple shape.
I didn't however want my apple to be this perfectly symmetrical ball so I went around selecting random faces to raise slightly and give it some shape. To add the finishing touch of the stalk I got a tube cylinder and added again more subdivisions and at the end selected the tip and extruded up and outwards to give it that irregular flare look and to top it off added in a slight rotation for realism.
For my Car asset I again started off with a block and added in subdivisions and by selecting all of the above half it meant I could lower it without the bottom also getting smaller and in this case it would be raising. I did this by selecting rows at a time to give a nice finish. I then selected the tip to lift up so that the front portion of the car was raised. The wheels I simply used rings but also added in seals by placing more rings around it to appear to make a connection with the vehicle.
Towards the back end of the car I started to raise the top level to fit the silhouette of the car and it also helped create that big exhaust/ rocket type feel. I then selected faces on the back with around 5 added subdivisions so selecting around 8x3 faces and then moving them inwards created a gap to a rocket type engine but is actually purely for dynamics and looks as the car of this time gap would be efficiently powered with no big engine.
My last asset and my first created asset is my future lamp which is fairly basic but made it using a long cylinder, a wider shorter cylinder and a half sphere to create the basic shape, adding in various details such as an extra 2 rings which can vaguely be seen on the shaft which would be like a touch screen device for say cab orders or games whilst waiting. The simplicity and discreteness of this however again links with my other assets.
The lamp its self is more like a LED light so you can imagine a bright future light which looks simple but highly effective. On the top I added a grid like pattern by using various shaped arranged to look like a solar panel again looking more towards a bright, efficient future.
